Real industrial marketing management v advertising agency

Not long ago, a business owner struggling with industrial marketing management asked me for some opinion on online marketing strategies and if they are really effective.

When I asked him what he’d been doing to date, he answered that he wasn’t quite sure because his advertising agency had been handling everything.

And this includes his online marketing strategies too. At least I should say that in the past tense, because the two businesses recently parted ways.

When I asked why, his answer was quite straightforward and made sense:

“They charged me a lot of money for old style advertising but seemed limited in online marketing services”.

Ultimately, they parted ways after several years working together. So why would you part ways after what was an affable arrangement which actually did yield results?

He responded with:

“I learned that advertising agencies do things in an old fashioned wayTraditionally, they have been strong on outbound marketing and producing collateral which has expensive design costs.

“They weren’t a true online marketing company and hence didn’t offer true online marketing services.

“So there was still a reasonable disconnect between their traditional strengths and where we needed our industrial marketing management to go.

“I can now see, with the technology at our disposal, industrial marketing is allabout having complete control over all the collateral you create, tracking it all so you know where your customers are coming from at any given time, and going as far as global if we want to.

“And now we are partnered with a true online marketing company and understand we can market in a very targeted way to the entire planet for relatively nothing compared to what we were paying in the past.”
